hotmail photo attachment stopped working
Latest post: bonjer70, Tuesday, August 10, 2010 2:57 PM

can anyone please help me get my hotmail to work again????

I used to be able to add photos using the drop down menu (the choice was to attach a file or a photo).  it would automatically compress the photos and it worked great.

now there is no drop down menu. it is horrid.

any help, super appreciated.

I to have run into the same problem FOR THE SECOND FREAKING TIME(on july 23). My 64 bit vista stopped (w attach photo) what seems like a lifetime ago( I have been following this issue forever hoping that one of Bill Gate's talented programers would fix what they screwed up) But NOW my 32bit vista laptop WHICH IHAVE BEEN RELYING onto run my business BECAUSE THE PHOTO UPLOAD TOOL STILL WORKED AND I COULD STILL SEND 50 {removed email address} TIME( but no one had a clue as to why the 32bit still worked) well now it works the same as my desktop which means hotmail people & technicians IT NO LONGER WORKS EITHER. EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM 3 pics at a time. I average 250 pics per job do the math. WINDOWS HAS EFFECTIVILY SHUT ME DOWN. I have tried deleating upload tool which I did but it never prompted me to re-install, upgraded Int explorer 8 all of which accomplished nothing. Believe me if windows wasn't on everything I have I would truly go elsewhere BUT LIKE MY CABLE COMPANY THERE ARE NO OTHER OPTIONS. If I can't send multiple attachents I will be out of business in foreclosure and living in my truck until they find that. Somebody PLEASE give me another option to email multiple pictures.

I am going to break out my XP tower tommorow and see if that will work like I have to have, I hated Vista from the start and right now I hate it a whole lot more

I have windows xp.

the hotmail photo attachment worked beautifully and flawlessly since I started using it about 2 months ago.

all of a sudden for no reason that I kknow of the drop down menu stopped working. there is no drop down menu to give you the choice of attaching a file or a photo. the attach link now opens a window of canon files, but not the zoombrowser ex picture files. i have tried for 3 days now to make it work. I cannot.

Windows Live (the new thing) is poor because it will only let me email 9 pictures at a time. the old way would lat me do 50.  any help in getting this working again super appreciated.

Hi Guys,

The Windows Live team is constantly reviewing the Hotmail service to ensure features are compatible with leading browser technologies including Internet Explorer.  We recently identified a compatibility issue with Windows Live Hotmail involving photo uploads and have taken the short-term step of removing the feature.  We are actively working to correct the problem.  You can still upload your photos; it just will not be through the photo upload tool at this time.

As an alternative, you can download Windows Live Desktop to send photo attachments.  In addition to the functionality you are looking for, it is also a simple, powerful tool that lets you get e-mail from multiple accounts in one place and integrates your mail with Windows Live Spaces, Windows Live Contacts, Windows Live Messenger, and more. For more information about Windows Live Mail Desktop, please visit the link below:

Note: To check if your computer meets the system requirements of Windows Live Mail beta, please visit the following link:

http://download.live.com/SystemRequirements.aspx

Note: We have figured out that the photo upload tool does not work on Windows Vista 64 bit. It will be looked into for a future release of Live Hotmail.

Hi 'Windows Live team'.... firstly 'thank you' to those of you who have (tried!) provided answers regarding this issue.... Rosalie, Anna P. and Alvin F - to name a few!

However!  I have a sneaking suspicion that the 'upload photo tool' may not reappear on the good ole 'plain ole' - hotmail.  I say this, because all your answers seem to share a common 'workaround' (as you guys put it!) theme ...... bringing to all the 'hotmail readers' attention - that you can however, still upload your photo's in the manner you require ... "IF" you sign up to "Windows Live Mail" which is also a 'free' option.  So all the answers seem to be pointing in that direction.

The thing is - I DON'T WANNA SIGN UP TO ANY OTHER MAIL ACCOUNT!!  And certainly not 'Live Messenger' or Live this or Live that!  I have just viewed a MASSIVE add for this new 'Vista' campaign going on, & in that it shows all these 'wonderful fabulous NEW upgraded' options, as well as packaging everything together (various email accounts etc) in the one new Windows Live Mail account.  I'm sure this will appeal to many many modern computer minded people as there are an amazing amount & range of new fang-dangle options from which to choose or get lost in!!  I however, have no need for all that 'fuss' & carry-on!!  I think sometimes in life you get to a point where you just 'get over all that stuff' & quite simply - just don't need it in your life ANYMORE!!!

THAT'S WHY I LIKE - PLAIN OLE SIMPLE HOTMAIL.  I feel I have far more control on what I wish to send and what I wish people to receive or view!  I don't need my WHOLE LIFE ON SHOW TO THE WORLD - that's why I liike plain ole NORMAL HOTMAIL.  Like many others have re-iterated - the photo attachment tool is clearly a winner for me.  A marverlously quick & efficient way to view & select the 'thumbnails' one requires to send - and "hey presto! - it's all done!"  and it is all SO QUICK & EFFICIENT.  I really do hope 'Windows Live team' are taking note of everything that people are saying regarding this wonderful 'photo tool' & what a difference it makes to 'normal hotmail users' lives when emailing.  I do hope you reinstate the 'photo attachment' option, and that it won't be a 'thing of the past' for hotmail users.  And I sincerely hope that one doesn't have to sign up to this whole new 'Vista' World just in order to want to send a bunch of photo's when emailing - cause quite simply - that is ALL I wish to do!  Is just 'email' & just send photo's!  I do not want to "Message" anyone in  'real time'  just so as I can discuss some pics I've just uploaded!! - I DO NOT WANT TO DO ANY OF THAT STUFF!!!.  I hope my message IS CLEAR!!!  I do not need nor do I want all that other 'stuff' that is now being offered through this brand new 'fang-dangle' Vista advert on various options for "Hotmailing".

Thank you for listening!  :-)))

Alvin F or somebody pl;ease help me withis problem if you can.

I have downloaded windows live hotmail. the problem is no better. you can attach 1 jpeg photo at a timewith this program. with the old program you could press the control key and attach a whole bunch of photos at once. and these photos would be automatically compressed to a good size for emailing. iot worked beautifully. it was excellent.

it no longer works. the drop down menu for the attach link is gone. (the drop down menu that gave you a choice whether to add a file or a photo.)

the new way is unuseable.

if anyone out there knows a way to email multiple pictures that will autmatically compress into a good size for emailing please let me know.

thanks

@ Sumthintosay,

The workarounds provided is a temporary solution while the Photo Upload Tool is disabled. You can CHOOSE to follow any of the workaround if you feel that you immediately need to use the feature to send pictures. However, I can assure you that we're actively in the process of a more long term solution but these take a lot of time to investigate and implement so it won't be done overnight.

Joseph D - THANK YOU SO MUCH for your response to my (rather long-winded!) comments!  I really really so do appreciate the time you've taken in order to respond to me.

I must say, I do feel v. pleased to 'see' you say that you are 'still working on the issue', therefore definitely sounds to me as though 'hotmail users' should hopefully still be able to use a similiar function (re: photo attach tool) in time to come!  Yaaayyyy!  Yipppeee!!  Woo-hoo!  is my response!!  ;-)))   .....

However!  (don't you love those 'howevers?!!  hee hee!!) .... when you say...  but these take a lot of time to investigate........

Just how much longer do you feel we'll be without the photo attach tool???   I do understand these things aren't always solved 'overnight' .... but I really am just refraining from sending any photo's until all this is resolved!! (mind you, my 'photos' are stock-piling at the moment!).  I don't wish to 'play around' & 'change this' or 'sign to that' in the interim.  I have noticed other people have already tried signing in to Windows Live Mail (in order to be able to send some photos) - but still without success of being able to utilise the 'photo upload tool!' - so I don't wanna even really try going down that path!

I'm just waiting 'patiently!!' ....... so how much longer do you reckon???! (seriously! - days, weeks, months???  what time frame are we talking here?!!)

Thanks for listening again!!  :-)))

We agree and want that feature back.  What can we do to get the message across "don't fix it if it's not broke".  This feature is main reason we switched to MSN Hotmail.  Look forward to a response.  Thank you.
