Hi jonkooly,

There’s currently no ongoing issue adding contacts to the Hotmail Contacts list. As initial troubleshooting, I recommend that you optimize your browser software. You see, every time that you log in to the Internet, cookies (information gathered from accessed websites) are stored in your computer's temporary Internet files or cache. When a large number of these files have built up, it causes abnormal behaviors such as what you’re experiencing. Check out the link below to optimize your browser:

I also have this same problem, however I'm not using internet explorer. I'm using Opera, and the reply above doesn't help.

One thing though, I remember deleting a file or something from my Windows Live folder on my computer, because I was experiencing another problem. When I deleted that file the other problem was solved.

Can you tell me where you’re trying to add contacts?  Is it in the Hotmail site?

Hello.  Are you trying to add your friend as your contact in your Hotmail account?  If so, please try to optimize your browser settings first to make sure that this isn’t contributing to this issue.  For instructions on how to optimize Internet Explorer, see the link posted by Windows Live Isabel M above.

Otherwise, let me know the specific Windows Live site or service where you’re trying to add a contact.

When I say specific Windows Live service I mean the services being offered by Windows Live like Windows Live Messenger, MSN Messenger, Windows Live Spaces, Windows Live SkyDrive, etc.

As of now, I can’t tell if the problem is related to XP service pack 3.  To investigate this, please give the ff:

1. What’s your Hotmail account?
2. Where do you click the add button?  Is it in MSN Messenger program?
3. Please send us a screenshot of the page where you’re clicking the add button.  Follow these steps to take the screenshot:

   a. Press the "Print Screen" key located on the upper right hand corner of the keyboard.
   b. Open your picture editor (example: Microsoft Paint).
   c. Paste the screenshot by simultaneously pressing on "Ctrl" and "V" on your keyboard or by selecting "Paste" on the "Edit" drop-down button in Microsoft Paint.
   d. Save the screenshot by simultaneously pressing on "Ctrl" and "S" on your keyboard or by selecting "Save" on the "File" drop-down button in Microsoft Paint.
   e. Enter a filename and select JPEG as file type.
   f. Click "Save."
   g. After that, attach the screenshot in a new e-mail.  The e-mail address where you can send the file is located in the Private Data area below.

Put "jaykuok89: https://windowslivehelp.com/community/t/46182.aspx" as the subject of your e-mail for easy tracking and reply to my post once you’ve sent the requested file.
