To set or change Messenger status/presence in Windows Live Hotmail, please try the following steps:
1. Sign in to Hotmail, click Messenger menu on the action bar, and click Sign in to Messenger (Web)
2. On the Messenger status menu, click the status that you want your Messenger contacts to see.
After you change your Messenger status, the heading for the Messenger menu changes. Instead of displaying Messenger as the heading, your current status appears as the heading.
