To clean up your duplicate contacts in Windows Live Mail, you'll need to do it from the Hotmail site and then synchronize your Hotmail and Windows Live Mail Contacts list.
To do this, please follow these steps:
1. In the upper-right corner of the Windows Live Hotmail home page, click “Options.”
2. Choose “More options" on the dropdown menu.
3. Under “Customize your contacts,” click the “Clean up duplicate contacts” link.
4. Click the “Clean up duplicate contacts” button.
5. A box will appear containing contacts that have similar name with different e-mail addresses.
6. Click the “Automatically merge all the exact matches” link below the box.
7. A dialog box will appear confirming your action. Click the “OK” button.
8. Another box will appear showing the e-mail addresses of your contact. Please click the “Merge” button on.
Notes:
- You can uncheck the box if you do not want a specific e-mail address to be merged.
- You can also delete unnecessary e-mail addresses.
9. You will be directed to the “Merge Contacts” page. Make the necessary changes and click the “Save” button when finished.
* Repeat steps 8-9 until you have merged all your duplicate contacts.
