Unable to access ‘MSN Photo Upload Control’ using Vista and Internet Explorer 7. Followed the MSN help support and removed 'pop-up blockers' etc but the Active X yellow information bar still doesn't appear let alone an install prompt. Only the following message:

 

We were unable to install the ActiveX control 'MSN Photo Upload Control' from 'Microsoft Corporation MSN'. If you see a gold bar at the top of your browser, please click it to install. Otherwise, click Install to try again.

 

What's with this? Anybody?

NP109ET, if you have an old version of Photo Upload Tool, please uninstall it first. Here are the steps:

1. Start Internet Explorer, click "Tools," and then click "Internet Options." 
2. On the Programs tab, click "Manage add-ons." 
3. On the Show drop-down menu, select "Downloaded ActiveX Controls (32-bit)." 
4. Click "MSN Photo Upload Tool." 
5. Click "Delete ActiveX," click "OK" and then click "OK" again.

Hello-  I've just had a problem this evening trying to attach a photo using live mail.  Normally this works fine for photos pulled off of my harddrive, but this evening I attempted to pull photo files directly from my SD card drive.  The photo files were not condensed before attaching to the email (taking much longer to load). This also made them very large on the email.  After reading some of the other messages, I have turned off the User Account Center Option with no success.  I've checked the Internet explorer add-ons and all of the Photo Upload add-ons are enabled.  Interesting to note, my spouse's live mail account is unchanged and can still condense/convert the same photos once they are imported onto our hard drive.  Any suggestions?  I'm a little reluctant to delete the Upload tool, which may mess up my spouse's account.  Thanks.

You can try the suggestion of Windows Live Anna P, dated, Thu, Jan 1 2009 6:53 AM. Don’t worry ‘cause it’ll not affect your spouse’s Photo Upload tool since it’s account specific.

Instead of offering wild goose chases, can you just rewrite the active x so it installs. Windows XP, IE 8. You would think with the volume of complaints regarding this SIMPLE fix, you could just fix it. Steve.

Hotmail doesn’t currently support IE 8 since this version of IE is still in Beta version. However, it has the “Compatibility View” feature which would allow it to run just like IE 7. Here are the instructions on how to access your account using the Compatibility View mode.

1. Launch Windows Internet Explorer 8 beta.
2. Click on the Tools menu then choose "Compatibility View Settings."
3. On the "Address of website to add to Compatibilty View" address box, click on the "Add" button. Live.com should be included on the list of website after doing this.
4. Click the "Close" button.

I am having this same problem. I do not have any options when I hit "attach" - I've followed all the instructions and so far all I was able to do was uninstall the program, but I'm not being prompted to install it again anywhere - HELP!

Please provide us your complete e-mail address and where you access your account.  Was it via the Hotmail website or an e-mail client.  Also, please tell us the browser you are using if you access your account via the website.

I have had this problem for months, and went through hours and hours of conversations with this board including sending a capture of the problem.  I was told that there is a compatability issue with the photo upload tool and Vista 64 wherein the "attach" button will not give you a pull down menu for uploading multiple photos and automatically compressing them as it did with previous operating systems.  Has this been corrected or is it a planned fix?

No Luck.  I hit "attach" and it goes directly into browsing for photos with no choice of "photo or file" or any attempt to upload the photo upload tool.  User control off, IE7 history and temp files deleted, etc.

Any other ideas?  What exactly do you mean by "update browser"?  I turned it off then on again, and any "update" will give me IE8 which is not supported.

I'm sorry for the confusion. If you're using 64-bit Windows Vista, it's still not supported. However, IE 8 in 32-bit Vista supports the Photo Upload Tool.

I am having this same problem. I do not have any options when I hit "attach" - I've followed all the instructions and so far  I wasn't able to get it working.

I have: windows vista 64, {removed email address}, IE 8, but with IE 7 it doesn't work either, access via windows live. I don't have any program under windows/downloaded programs file, if this can help.
