I merged your two posts.

Your error messages are related to Human Interactive Proof (HIP) validation process. This was implemented to verify valid users and to help stop both incoming and outgoing unsolicited e-mail (SPAM). This security measure helps make it very difficult for spammers to employ automated programs that use the Hotmail system to send unsolicited e-mail. Additionally, we are currently investigating this issue. In the meantime, follow the workaround below.

1) Sign out of your Hotmail account.
2) Go to the following link:

3) Sign in again with your Hotmail account.
4) You will be prompted to complete the HIP puzzle. Enter the code,
5) HIP completed and you should be able to send e-mail again.

i'm getting this same error and tried your link to enter in the captcha code thingy but still am getting same error not letting me send email.  i have done the new pop3 update and tried with outlook express and windows live mail.  downloads emails ok but doesn't send.  my email address is: {removed email address}   could you please look into my email address on your end.

I am having the same problem as the one described.  I pasted the link and completed the HIP puzzle, but still cannot receive my mail through Outlook.   Please advise.

I am able to receive emails, thanks to your instructions above. However, now I can't send mail, and I'm unsure why. My error message is: The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop3.live.com', Server: 'smtp.live.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10051, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E.

I am also having issues and have not received my emails ALL DAY.  My email address is {removed email address}

Please help ASAP as my customers are unable to contact me!  I tried adding the pop3 account via instructions on another page but it still isn't working.

Thank you for your advice. I followed that but it did not resolve the issue. Stil I am not able to get Outlook Express's "Send/Receive" button to work. I get the same previous error messages.

Wouln't you think that it might to do with the Server URL http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp asp file?

Hi Edlyn,

It seems probable that something is not working inside the ASP file located at the

HTTP server.  Account: 'Hotmail', Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp'.

So the Outlook Express is not able to login to hotmail.
