I logged in to my hotmail account for the 1st time today in 4 days to find all my folders have disappeared. This is terrible as I have kept many important documents in these folders. I think a spam message was sent to my contact list in the last few days and I am now changing my password. Also many recent emails are missing from my sent and inbox folders.

I found some of the missing emails from various missing folders in my deleted folder... but before I realised what had happened, I cleared the 1st page of emails from the deleted folder. I then transferred everything remaining in deleted to a new folder 'RESCUED'. Can you please help me recover the missing e-mails???  Thankyou you in advance. :-(

Hi Gurenkuraku. We don’t have the capability to restore your e-mail folders but we can try to recover the messages in those folders. Just post your e-mail address here and we’ll try to retrieve them.

About the spam that you received, there’s still another thing that you should do to make sure that your account is secured. See this link for the details:

Hello, yes please help me. I am desperate with basically the last month or so of all my emails missing as well as much of what was in the varius folders. My email address is {removed email address} but I'm not sure what you mean by another thing I should do to secure my account? I changed my password and changed the security question... do you mean alternate email address? I have been using shared computers all over the place for the past couple of months while travelling and obviously at least one was virus-ridden.

I was able to recover a bit of deleted messages and they are now in your Deleted Items folder. Check them out.

If you’re looking for more, the recovery I did covers everything. If you’re not seeing the messages you want, then those are permanently gone and cannot be recovered anymore.

Hey thanks heaps... it seems you got most of em back. Still missing anything I should have received around the first few days of Nov. Now to try and get them organised again... shall be more careful which shared computers I use now and change my password more regularly.

As for the bastards who hijacked my account... hope you get back some seriously bad karma.
