I have been getting the above message for the last 2 weeks. I hope it is not a virus. I can login, make one action (read an e-mail, change to another folder etc) and then this message appears.

What is the problem and solution please?

When I try to put spam into the junk file I get the 'maintenance' message. This has been going on for several days. Also under 'mark as' there is no facility to mark emails as spam or junk. How do I solve this please?

That’s not a virus.  It’s an error message that a user can get when the server where his/her account resides is currently undergoing maintenance.

If the issue persists, can you verify if you’ll experience the same problem even when you use a different computer with a different Internet connection?

For your concern on the missing option to mark e-mail as junk in the Mark as drop down menu, it’s not there by design.  If you’ve enabled your Reading pane, the Mark as junk link will appear once you’ve selected the message by ticking the check box.  If your Reading pane is Off, you can see the Junk option between the Delete link and Mark as drop down menu.
