Everytime I try to send an email and click on the " To" button to scroll through my contacts an automated signature pops up talking about selling laptops and other products. When I checked my sent items box there was a listing of email addresses from people I don't know. I believe my account has been hacked. How can this problem be resolved?

I suggest that you visit your account's Personal e-mail signature settings to remove the message that appears when composing an e-mail message. You can refer to this solution article for more info on how to do this:
